Tips for using Apps

Ten tips for using apps in the classroom:

1.  Many secondary students have access to apps on a Smartphone or tablet.

2.    Apps are portable and can be used almost anywhere. This means you can easily access classroom materials on the go.

3.     They are great to use for field trips and could be used as a handy notebook.

4.     Students can be easily distracted when using their phones. Teachers should be aware of this and find solutions to keep students engaged in the learning activities.

5.    There are many apps, but care should be taken when choosing which ones to use. They are not all created equally.

6.   Apps can make grading and classroom management easy and portable.

7.     It is often better to use just one tablet or Smartphone hooked up to a projector, rather then have 40 students each using their own.

8.    There are some great apps that allow teachers to better organize their classroom and that allow them to easily create lesson plans.

9.     Teachers can reduce paper by using ereader apps.

10. Apps are the future and to reach young students we must embrace the world they are growing up in.
